ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
Recognizing Resilience, Grit, and True Leadership—On and Off the Field
NATE KENNEDY
Athlete of the Month — July 2025

A moment I felt doubted was this past football season. My team was coming off of a bye week and we were playing the 7th ranked team in the state. Not a soul thought we could win, we went on to win 21-0.
Staying focused when working to become your best self is one of the hardest things you can do. Always having different hurdles come your way. For me, I work to stay mentally focused and confident by choosing small goals that lead up to a larger goal, by doing this I can keep my moral up because I achieve, in a sense, more this way.
A few years ago I had a couple injuries back to back. A lot of people were telling me I wouldn’t be able to come back from those injuries and become a good football player. I shut out what everyone was saying because they weren’t putting in the work I was for me, and they couldn’t change anything about me. I stayed focused and got healthier and became a varsity starter a few months after recovering from injury.
The person who pushed me the most was my dad. He would always push me through the hurt and soreness both mental and physical so I can get that extra edge on my competition.
Being unseen isn’t because people aren’t looking, it’s because you aren’t giving them a reason to look. It isn’t on anyone else but yourself to make yourself seen. You have to put yourself out into the open to be seen, hoping to be seen by chance is the downfall of any athlete with potential.
Quitting is never an option because there are only two things that come from quitting. The first is you prove the doubters right. Everyone who might say you won’t become anything would be telling the truth if you quit. And the second is you would be proving yourself wrong. Starting anything worth doing shows people you want to become better. And it shows yourself you can become better, but when things get hard and you try to quit you go against the first thought you had when starting something. And those are the worst two things you can ever do. The BOTB mindset is that the haters are always wrong, which means quitting is the opposite of the BOTB mindset, and therefore quitting is never an answer and the BOTB lifestyle is always the answer.

B.O.T.B is definitely something special, All my life I’ve always been underlooked, always being the youngest and smallest since I was always competing and always with people older than me. Initially I thought the internal battle that I constantly had was I’m not good enough to play up a level, a grade, and was even scared of competing with anyone who seemed or looked older than me, but for me it was all God. Can’t thank anyone else for the confidence, the constant desire and will power to compete and faith to play the game. It definitely took a toll on me going into my freshman year knowing I wasn't as big or as strong as the other guys but I just put all my trust into God and his unwavering constant flow of showing me, not only how great he is but how he can change me and my life.
What I would say to a 13–17 year old kid who feels unseen is: put all your trust in God and what he can do for you. Plain and simple. There’s no beating around the bush, or trying to simmer down the answer. God changed my life in so many more ways than one, and He’s for damn sure going to do it in yours. You’re going to get tired, you’re going to be fatigued, nervous, etc. But quitting is never an option. If there’s one thing you should know, it’s that quitting is only a lack of faith—a lack of trust in who you are and what you’re capable of doing. B.O.T.B mentality is a lifestyle of you constantly believing in yourself.
The BOTB Mentality in Action
At B.O.T.B, we honor athletes who push beyond limits—not just in performance, but in mindset. Each month, we spotlight individuals who embody true grit, heart, and an unwavering commitment to their team.
They're not always the loudest voices or the biggest stats. They're the ones who lead in silence, rise through adversity, and lift others even when they’re struggling. That’s the B.O.T.B Mentality.
